Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle
Happy Earth Day. I am happy to be celebrating Earth Day 2017 with ReBin and sharing a cool Recycling Bin DIY. Are you tired of those same old boring blue recycling bins? Insert the hand in the air emoji. We hide ours our pantry. But what if you don’t have a space to hide them? Then most likely you don’t recycle. I’m here to share with you today the coolest recycling bin ever. A recycling bin you won’t mind keeping out for everyone to see. It’s smart, beautiful, and sustainable and it’s made in the USA by ReBin US.
Every day should be Earth Day but today has always been extremely special to me. After college I moved to DC where I landed a job as an art director of Environment Magazine. That’s where my love for the taking care of the environment started. Minimizing my carbon footprint and living an accountable life while taking care of our planet for future generations has been my goal for years. So when the sustainable organic bedding company Under The Canopy came to me and asked me to collaborate I jumped at the opportunity! This Earth Day Under The Canopy has teamed up with ReBin US to draw further awareness to taking care of our planet.
Recycling In Style
I love that ReBin US has designed a functional, sustainable, clean and simple solution to recycling. These beautiful bins don’t even have to be used for recycling. The uses are limitless! I plan to use one in my car to store shopping bags, my art supplies and weekend cottage essentials. How about giving a gift in one? Do you already one one? Share the way you use your bin by using the hashtag #BINIT
Recently my daughter Chloe has been getting ready for high school finals. She has been going through her notebooks and getting rid of all her class notes and papers. I walked into her room the other day and there were papers all over the floor. I decided to give HER the stylish recycling bin that she could also use as a garbage waste pail.
Not Your Grandma’s Recycling Bin
Of course the white version is perfectly beautiful and could’ve worked just fine in Chloe’s room, but I had an idea to jazz it up using washi tape that I purchased at Michael’s. Simple horizontal stripes would coordinate perfectly.
The application was simple and took me less than 10 minutes to complete. I measured from the bottom and the top of the bin 1 inch and adhered my 5-inch thick black and white striped tape. I ended it in the side just beyond the crease and used an X-Acto blade for a nice clean cut.
After completing the black and white stripes. I centered down the middle a gold glittered band. I made sure the second side went beyond the crease and cut another clean line. If the stripes didn’t meet up I repositioned it after the cut. I absolutely love how it came out. I would take it to the grocery store it’s so cool!
ReBins are made from 100% post consumer recycle plastic bin came with a paper bag insert. This bag is useful when recycling any wet or sticky products like soda cans or to-go containers.
My Recycling Bin is Cooler Than Yours
I took all of Chloe’s school papers off the floor and they fit neatly in the bin. The plastic is so thick that you can carry it by the handles for heavier loads. My Under The Canopy Amalfi striped pillow made from organic cotton is perfect for Chloe’s gold desk chair. We love her room decorated for Christmas and all the many makeovers its gone through.
The black and white stripes of the washi tape match perfectly with Chloe’s black and white striped curtain panels. I’d love to get the black one next and put white polka dots on it.
It Could Be Yours
I’m so happy to be joining up with Under the Canopy and ReBin US today to give away two decorative pillows and one white recycling bin. You wont believe how easy it is to enter. Head on over to my Instagram page, like today’s photo and follow both companies. A random winner will be chosen on April 28th. It’s that simple! Good luck and go out and take care of your planet. We only have one!
