Welcome to the Rooms We Love Blog Tour organized by my dear friend Tammy from Pink Peppermint Designs. I am so excited to be participating in this fabulous tour with some great bloggers. If you’re coming over from Laura at Meaningful Spaces welcome and don’t forget to stop by the whole tour listed below for loads of inspiration! I am sharing my daughter Chloe;s teen bedroom.
Close To Home
Over the years I have decorated some fun kids spaces. From a Better Homes and Garden’s nursery to a HGTV featured Adirondack Room, a sherbet sweet twins bedroom, a college dorm room and everything in between. I’ve put some serious energy in these rooms but at the end of the day I go home and leave that fun space behind. So when it came to decorating my daughter Chloe’s room I knew I had an added investment. At 14, Chloe had an idea fo how that room should look. She wanted a sophisticated black and white room with accents of gold and pops of turquoise. I loved her color vision and jumped to work designing. This teen bedroom has been one of my favorite makeovers to date.
Before
Chloes tween room was filled with florals, peace signs, cotton candy walls, mismatched furniture that made for a carnival of color and pattern. It even was feathered as one Of Shutterfly’s favorite rooms. She loved it but was ready to graduate to a teen space that would take her well into her college years. (click on the images to enlarge the before pictures.)
We calmed the walls down with a fresh coat of gray paint and dress the windows with black and white drapery panels bringing your eye up to a metallic gold chevron decal border. We replaced the standard flush mount light with a modern white scalloped flower chandelier.
Furnishing the room was a breeze from there. We looked for bright white furniture. Gone went her hot pink painted desk and in came a streamline white and gold desk. A gold metal chair accompanied the desk and for extra seating we added a black polka dot barrel chair in the corner. A trio of white shadow box shelves holds souvenirs, collectibles, and photos of her BFFs.
That fun little shopping bag happens to be a recycling bin! And no, it didn’t come matching the room. To see how I created one of the coolest recycling bins around click here.
Good Vibes Only
I’m a true believer that every room needs fresh flowers and a positive attitude.
A hand me down TV armoire becomes storage central. We’ve all seen the big chunky TV armoires of the 90’s. Take a look at how this transformation took place and see the before picture here using paint and simple to install glacier trellis contact paper.
The large headboard on the Hawthorne Bed in French Yellow Linen allows for Chloe to stack up the pillows and lean back to study or relax. A new Retreat Nightstand and matching dresser from Raymour & Flanigan were purchased to give her all the added storage a teen girl needs for clothing. We took the mix and match approach to accessorizing and added a bright green and gold Paris Table lamp for extra light.
For bedding we chose the Deco Dot comforter set from Kate Spade. We added pink agate accent pillows and a bright luxury turquoise sheet set to pop against the black and white.
Jingle Bells
For the past two years we have decorated Chloe’s teen bedroom for Christmas. I sprung last year and purchased an artificial 7-foot White Christmas tree and decorated it with hot pink, gold, and turquoise ornaments and a white fur tree skirt. Its the most beautiful room all lit up at night.
I sprinkled her room with white jingle bells and festive white and gold winter accents.
Pretty In Pink
Just recently we gave Chloes’ adjoing bath a serious makeover. It was the only room in the house besides my home office that hadn’t been touch since we purchased the home 10 years ago. We carried in the turquoise and hot pink theme from her teen bedroom and added more GLAM. To see the before pictures and more view of this bathroom click here.
Thank you so much for taking the Rooms We Love Blog Hop! It was seriously so difficult to pin down one of my favorites. Another favorite of mine was a recently finished rustic farmhouse inspired basement renovation for a client that was inspired by HGTV’s Fixer Upper. We added so much more livable space and gave this family of five a warm and inviting place to entertain and relax. I’m sure you love all the rustic charm.
Now I’d love for you to head on over to Haneen’s Haven. Haneen is never short on style, color and load of fun. Next months tour will include a spring tablescape and the reveal of a $5K auction donation makeover. Stay tuned my friends!
YOU ARE THE BEST!

Amie, I love her room so much! That gold chair is just divine and that desk is the desk I want (but I need one super long like I have). It’s all perfect for her! xoxo
