As soon as the bulbs start to pop and the weather turns warm we all get itchy to bring in the colors of Springtime. I’m always getting calls from clients wanting a min room makeover without breaking the bank…. Here’s one guest bedroom that we brought from bland to beautiful.
Good Bedroom Blues
This room started out with good basics. A velvet light blue nail headed king size bed and matching wood stained nightstands, silver wall sconces and custom built in bench seat and bookcases. The cream floral wool rug that covered a majority of the cherry wood floors was stained. That would have to go along with he matching 80’s inspired bench at the end of the bed. I am a huge fan of a monochromatic color scheme but when everything matches- it all looks washed out.
The makeover begins
I began by painting the walls a softer grayish blue color Icelandic SW6526 by Sherwin Williams. The worn carpet was replaced with a plush tight piled blue wool remnant that I had bound for a fraction of the price of a catalog carpet. An outdated 70’s bench seat was replaced with a light blue velvet bench from HomeGoods. The dusty torn lampshades were swapped out to fresh white linen.
Painted Furniture
The matching damaged pickled white nightstands looked dirty and warn. I decided the pair would get a fresh coat of Amy Howard At Home One Step Paint in Bauhaus Buff. If you’re not familiar with Amy’s Paint line I suggest you swing by your local Ace Hardware store where you can purchase a quart of this one step paint that is paint and primer all rolled into one. She has the most current trending colors and this natural One Step paint is low VOC which makes it perfect for indoor use.
A small 4inch roller and tray and an angel brush to get in the corners was all that I needed to bring them to life. Two good coats, a clear wax topcoat and they would dry overnight before putting the hardware back on. Painting the two nightstands took me just under 2 hours start to finish! Luxurious Bedding
After the large pieces of the room were complete I headed out to HomeGoods for accessories and fresh new bedding. I found the most soothing Tahari bedding set in a blue, turquoise, gray and white paisley and paired it up with white and navy embroidered Kate Spade sheets. I added nautical touches with artwork from Wisteria Flowers and Gifts and books in creams, light blues and beiges from the homeowners collection. A vast array of pottery, baskets, candles and faux succulents and greenery fill the bookcases and just like that the room is ready for its first overnight guest. Thanks for stopping by! xoxo Amie
Creating a cozy and inviting guest bedroom is so much fun. There is nothin better than having your guest feel pampered with a royal treatment. I also have another guest room that I designed and decorated that was deck out for the Holidays.
