Hi Friends! Welcome to The Freling-Brown Christmas Home Tour. This is the first time that I’ll be posting any Holiday pictures of our home. In the past I’ve posted Christmas decor on my Instagram feed but when a couple of my IG friends asked me to participate in a Christmas Home Tour I eagerly jumped on the wagon, I mean the sleigh.
Christmas Decorating Ideas
Christmas has always been one of my favorite holidays and you will see by the following pictures my love of color only gets amplified during the holiday season with Christmas decor in every room. I don’t really have a theme but I do love to collect meaningful items and decorations. Some come out every year and some get put away for a while and brought back in a new setting. Most everything has a story. You will see traditional, rustic, whimsical and everything in between. But in the end the entire house is all us… a fun, approachable, unstuffy family friendly home that welcomes all who enter. Come on in!
Green With Envy
Believe it or not I keep this green chest of drawers paired up with the red and cream rug all year round. Our front foyer is small and this pieces is the perfect spot to catch keys, store electronics and just about anything else. A mini fresh tree brings cheer and a fresh pine scent. This little guy will get planted in the Spring.
This year I’ve fallen in love again with bottle brush trees. These affordable colorful little cuties gets sprinkled all around the house.
Theres always room for more Christmas bulbs. I hung extra glass bulbs form the drum shade chandelier in the front foyer and dressed the wall with a matching wreath. I love this view looking into the living room with all the winter sun pouring in thru the back windows.
Decorating The Kitchen
The kitchen counter clutter gets cleared off and I make room for my mini tree collections and red appliances. I hung a silver tray from Pottery Barn over the stovetop and made a pine wreath and added sprigs of fresh herbs. When cooking all my favorite herbs, parsley, basil, cilantro, rosemary and sage are fresh and at hand.
My sideboard is one of my favorite places to accessorize with Christmas decor. I found this 6 foot wide server on craigslist a few years ago for $200. It needed some serious repairs. I designed and made the top hutch and painted it gray and added turquoise glass hardware. With our 11′ ceilings we needed a tall piece to fill up the wall and she fits the bill. I accessorized the typically all white pottery sideboard by adding red and green colored vintage ceramics, more bulbs, and fresh and faux greens.
Christmas Dinner Table Setting
When it comes to holiday dinners I take the mix and match approach to dinnerware. I mix my fine wedding china with inexpensive plates. For this dinner party it’s family style. A small colorful arrangement, white and gold accents and large gold paper mache stars are the backdrop for this dinner party.
I set our farmtable with a neutral gold flecked table cloth, classic Christmas plaid runner, and gold chargers from HomeGoods, white and gold candlesticks, embossed champagne glasses and hand-painted holly water goblets from Marshalls, monogrammed napkins and combined my Richard Ginori green, white and gold wedding china with gold swirled salad plates from Pier One. Harlequin diamond bulb place setting holders from Wisteria Flowers and Gifts.
Farmhouse Style Christmas Dinner
For a more rustic look I bring out the nordic ski settings, bistro red striped cotton napkins , green silverware set from C Wonder, wax dipped pine cones, and a huge arrangement of fresh pines mixed with more rustic bulbs and deer burlap ribbon. I skip the table cloth all together on this setting exposing the distressed red farmable.
A Christmas Mantel
Our living room is the most colorful space at Christmas. Last year on garbage day a neighbor was throwing out a pair of damaged red nordic skis. They didn’t stay very long at the curb! The velvet tuxedoed penguins were gifts to my daughter when she was younger and this sweet family still finds their way to our mantel each year. The garland gets large tassel ornaments, and whimsical plaid MacKenzie-Childs stockings. The letter B initial isn’t seasonal Christmas decor, it stays in the fireplace year round. This year I cut birch logs and stacked them ends out all around the light up letter giving us the smell of fresh cut wood.
This year fireside is the addition of a The Admiral, a reindeer with a heart nose embroidered pillow, a melted snowman candle and a vintage green pipe that Santa must have left here last year!
Our living room tree is always a fresh one that we cut down ourselves. This year it’s a 9′ fraser fur. This tree is decorated traditional and has my entire collection of glass Christopher Radko ornaments. My parents started gifting me these collectibles when I got married and each year theres a new addition.
Holiday Bedroom Decor
In our bedroom I switch to all white matelasse bedding and add colorful holiday accent pillows and throws from HomeGoods. The nightstand gets a small arrangement.
This accent table get more mini trees and extra bulbs. It is one of my favorite vignettes on our home. A cherished winter landscape painting by Emille Gruppe hangs over a thrifted white table with my favorite items, a crystal candle holder that was a wedding gift to my parents, a box filled with letters from my husband and daughter, and a statue of Jesus.
Kid’s Christmas Trees
In Chloe’s room this year we upgraded her mini four foot tinsel tree to a 7 foot all white tree. Ever since she was born we started her collection. A strand of rainbow colored pom pom garland runs thru this tree and gets a bedazzled white and black ribbon tree topper bow. I purchased a large hot pink mercury glass trees for her desk, candy colored gift boxes, and a tin pail for the tree container that reads Hope, Love, Peace and Joy. All purchased from HomeGoods. Chartreuse pom pom window panels from Target round out this teen’s colorful winter wonderland.
Home Office Christmas ideas
My office needed some season Christmas decor happiness so I bought a roll of chalkboard removable wallpaper and temporarily papered the wall and painted a holiday ‘Tis the Season to be jolly mural. It’s my last stop at the end of the day to check my emails and its the last stop on our Christmas Home Tour. I recently gave this office a total makeover including painting the wall ombre turquoise. Think ombre walls might be in your future? I have a tutorial on how to created this amazing painted wall treatment.
I hope that you’ve enjoyed a peak into our loving home with our Christmas decor! May the New Year bring you all good health and happiness. Amie,
I was at a Holiday party in Victor a few years ago w/Rachael Clark. The home owner had two matching topiary paintings by you w/ snowflakes and black checked frames blue-green backround. I had a shop for 5 yrs in Pittsford near the Springhouse. Pink Stiches and Presents.. let me know …th. And Happy Holidats. Suzette Lepper
