How to Make a Starburst Mirror
Nothing quite says “Thank you for being the best teacher” like a handmade no. 2 pencil starburst mirror. Well end of the school year is rapidly approaching and we all scramble to find the perfect gift for our favorite teachers. Time to think outside the box for a creative unique gift that will make your child stand out! Forget the apples friends and give him or her something chic, fun, and totally unique. I always say that there isn’t a sunburst mirror that I don’t love. So this low cost whimsical variation will make the perfect gift for my daughter’s end-of-the-year teacher gift. I came across a wooden plate at the thrift shop but any plate would do.
What makes the wood better is that I was able to nail in the picture hook. If you choose plastic or a thick paper plate you will have to use epoxy to adhere the hook. I purchased from the Dollar store a circular mirror, glue gun and glue and 6 packages of No. 2 yellow pencils. The pencils were sharpened and then hot glued the mirror to the center of the back of the wooden plate. I then glued 4 pencils starting with 12 o’clock, 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock. and then 9 o’clock. I then glued in between making sure that the space between pencils were even, It was as simple as that. This can be done with colored pencils too. Now it’s not so bad to be the Teacher’s Pet after all!
