With the start of the New Year we pack up Christmas and say good-bye to all the glitter and Holiday cheer. It’s time to reSTYLE after the Holidays! The house always seems so bare after it’s all put away but I look at it as the perfect time to uncluttered, purge and restyle with a refreshing new look. This Christmas, Santa brought us a brand new neutral gray and white carpet from Raymour and Flanigan. January 1st it hit the floor. At first I wasn’t quite sure about all the whiteness since I’m accustomed to so much color in my life. But it grew on me and the bright fresh look was a breath of fresh air. I decided to keep with a Winter white theme and bring down all my black and white pillows and accessories. The focus was less on color and more about PATTERN. If you’re coming from Sheila’s Maison De Cinq home welcome! Sheila’s California home is so beautiful. Love how she infused her unique fresh style with a traditional home.
Neutral Decor
Blending the beige linens with the whites and wood was easier than I thought when I needed to restyle after the holidays. My linen covered furniture served at neutrals. White ceramic garden stools, home accents, tray, vases and picture frames were scattered thruout the room.
Coffee Table Styling
If you’re read my blog post before then you know that I love to collect old games and game pieces. The black and white dominos make another guest appearance. After all they are black and white.
On the coffee table I placed my large white painted wood tray from PBTeen. This huge tray acts as a bright backdrop to my accessories. When it’s time to restyle after the holidays I stacked books with black and white spines and covers, a graphic quatrefoil acrylic box, ceramics and my silver vintage drink coasters around my large Carrera marble and glass votive.
DESIGN TIP: If you have several little items try using a large tray to tie the pieces together for one cohesive look. Plus its a breeze to clear the table.
Black and White Decor
I have been collecting graphic stripes, checks, swirls, florals and blocked black and white pillows for some time now. Layering them adds to the interest and it makes for a interesting mix and match approach. See some of my favorite black and white pillows here.
I found these large soft cotton plaid fringed pillows at HomeGoods the day after Christmas. Welcome to the club. The more the merrier!
ReStyling your Fireplace Mantel
For years I have been scouring garage sales, flea markets, and stores for unique white pottery and ceramics in all different shapes and sizes. I brought in my mirrored star from the bedroom and leaned it against the wall reminding me of the snowy Winter wonderland that just outside the windows.
FRESH OR FAUX GREENERY
Pops of greenery give me hope that Spring is soon to come. GREENERY is also Pantone’s Color of The Year. You will be seeing it a lot not just in nature but fashion, interior design and everywhere else! Green is one of my favorite colors and I couldn’t be more excited to use it in my design this year. I also picked up at HomeGoods a lucite based white coral paperweight. I’m sure once Spring comes this will be traveling down to the Lake with me but until then it takes center stage on my Winter mantelscape. I love to redecorate the mantel with blue and greens form Spring!
GETTING READY FOR SPRING
When I stripped down for Winter I really went white. The Springtime butterfly slipcovers came off and the white duct upholstery is clean and crisp. Come April the bright graphic oversized butterflies will be back! I promise. So many of you love them. They are from one of my favorite Designers, Design Legacy by Kelly O’Neil. He’s my first stop when I go to Market. The light up marquee letter B is also from his showroom.
On the natural pine chest I stack more black and white books and a huge white covered porcelain vessel, my white “snowman” lamps and more green orbs and family photos. It’s one of my favorite place s to sit in the morning. The sunlight just floods in through the big picture windows.
VINTAGE FINDS
By the piano I lean my vintage apple picking ladder and layer on the winter blankets. We have so many blankets in this house! There’s nothing better to snuggle up with and watch TV under. Any one else out there blanket horders? My tall matte black iron candlesticks from Crate and Barrel flank the TV. At night I turn on my flameless battery powered candles. They have the most realistic flames. As it flickers it casts the most beautiful shadows on the wall. If you don’t have any… get some. They have a remote!
A FRESH START
January has been back to basics for me and a fresh start on my decorating color palette. I’m looking forward to sharing more additions with all of you in February. I think that red would fit right in to this space…. but that’s weeks away and until then I am going to savor every bit of this clean bright refreshing look with my new restyle after the holidays. Amie, Isn’t it so much fun to learn from each other? And I really do learn from you, My Friend. I imagine shopping with you, and can see you have a real knack for choosing interesting items, original shapes, colors, textures. Then, you have such talent for putting it all together. Amazing! I feel like a student. Thanks for the tutorial hee hee! Love, Julie

Thank you sweet Julie! You know you are just drawn to things you like. I threw out the idea “does this work in my house” long ago. You buy what you like and put it together and that becomes your own signature style. Less worries, more interest and even more YOU. Have a wonderful day and thanks so much for stopping by. xo
Lacey
