Recently I was contacted by a potential client who wanted a mural in the former dining room turned music room, more specifically a piano room. Patricia asked to set up an appointment to see her new Cape Cod home that she and her husband have been renovating for the past three months. It was beautiful!
Cape Cod Charm
This quaint shaker shingled Cape Cod was nestled in the woods and was the epitome of Nantucket charm. As I walked into the front door I immediately fell in love with the space. A step down into the living room and directly behind an opening was the former dining room that housed the most beautiful baby grand piano. The wall behind would get the mural and the only other piece of furniture in the room would be a small chest of drawers. The mural and piano would take center stage for both rooms. Patricia had this idea of painting large oversized poppies but in a modern watercolor style. It would be pushing the envelope for this classic Cape Cod but hey what the heck it was go big or stay home. Plus I’m always up for doing a project that I’ve never done before.
Large Floral Wall Mural
Most of the furnishings were neutral with pops of color in oil paintings and pottery. We took her inspiration and found the monochromatic coral color found in her kilm rugs and pillows. We settled on the color Sherwin Williams Henna Shade SW6326. I also purchased paint two shades lighter and two shades darker. The lighter color Melon Coral SW6324 and the darker Fireweed SW6328. I sketched out very quickly where the black outline would go and started with the lighter melon coral and worked my way into the center of the flowers blending each darker color. The last step was painting the black outlines giving definition to the colors and making the whole wall pop. The entire project took just over 4 hours.
Monochromatic mural
I’m just so happy the way that it turned out. It’s monochromatic color scheme works perfect against the high-gloss jet black grand piano. This coral color is the perfect blend of reds, rusts, and oranges making this mural fresh, fun and inviting! I’m now thinking that every classical pianist needs a modern poppy mural!
PS Lighting sconces aren’t in yet nor are the window treatments. I just was so excited I had to share! I will be updating this post soon with the finished look. Thanks for stoping by and seeing this poppy mural. xoxo Amie

HI Emily! I used to but no longer do. About 11 years ago I injured my neck painting a Michealangelo ceiling mural. So sorry, just walls and canvases now.
