A fresh, fun and family friendly living room makeover with Raymour and Flanigan and MemeHill Studiothere is nothing better than a home filled with fabulous new living room furniture. To say that my sister Jenni and I are close is an understatement. Our kids were born within 5 days of each other and we even live on the same street.  So when Jenni got engaged to her boyfriend Mike I knew the likelihood of them moving was inevitable. They waited for almost a year and ended up buying the perfect house… across the street.

The New Digs

The new abode, a recently renovated 6-bedroom center entrance colonial with enough space for this new family of six.  This new house had a formal living room and Jenni had no furniture for it.  When she turned to me to for help I jumped at the chance to decorate and push her a little outside of her comfort zone. After all isn’t that what sister do? Her decorating style is a playful traditional decor consisting of colorful plaids, traditional stripes and a mix of painted and antique furniture with a country french flair. This formal living room would be Jenni and Mike’s room. Jenni had a vision of a comfortable, relaxed yet elegant room… an adult quiet and TV free zone.

The bright rectangular room has a cozy fireplace, built-in bookcases, and two large picture windows.   This more sophisticated color palette and style design needed to tie in with the rest of the homes decor and still have charm and warmth. We gravitated to a color palette of grays, blacks, whites, and yellows with accents of golds.

We chose the Raymour & Flanigan Lakeside Sofa (click on the highlighted link to open a description page)  A comfortable and versatile slipcovered line that comes in a variety of colors. The Natural Linen color would brighten up this space and give us the most options to change accessories and accents as the seasons and her style evolves. We paired the sofa up with the companion  Raymour & Flanigan Lakeside Chair and a Half . These living room furniture pieces are the perfect spot to cozy up next to the fire, reading a book or re-caping on the day’s events. The slipcovers are easy to wash and work the other slipcovered pieces in the home. We accessorized the seating with textural down filled pillows in all shapes and sizes and a super cozy pom-pom orange throw for a pop of color from HomeGoods.

A curated Gallery Wall

The gallery wall is a collection of vintage botanical prints, mirrors and maps of NYC.  The ceramic rose bouquet lamp with its lime washed shade, and family of metal sheep sit atop the heirloom chest of drawers.

The modern lines adds to the eclectic mix. The drawers pull out from both ends making it a perfect place to stack magazines, remotes, or even display photos or holiday decorations.

Happiness is A Journey

For additional seating near the fireplace Jenni chose the Priscilla Accent Chair. A petite chair originally chosen for the kitchen sitting area but just seemed to work perfectly fireside. It’s sloped wooden arms and fresh gray and natural quatrefoil fabric added the right amount of pattern and design and didn’t block the view into the adjoining family room. The mantel is dressed up for Thanksgiving with simple boxwood faux topiaries, mercury glass gourds, pumpkins and leaves. A gold guilded framed oil painting of two row boats hangs over blending in with the calming color scheme. All items and potted zebra grass from Wisteria Flowers and Gifts.

A fresh New Wall Color

The once yellowy beige walls were painted in Sherwin-Williams Knitting Needles SW 7672 and trim painted in a fresh coat of Creamy SW 7012 to make everything pop. I color matched the darker stripe in the striped curtain panels and painted the backs of the bookcase the back of the bookcase in Sherwin-Williams Pewter Cast SW7673 creating depth and interest. Two gray and cream leopard chairs flank the 19c. corner table.

Amie, it looks absolutely beautiful!!! Can’t wait to see it person. My favorites are the leopard chairs and pillows. Are they from R&F?? Are you doing other parts of the house as well?

Hi Beth- I found them somewhere else. We have most of the house done except the kitchen remodel. There’s still some twerking to do. Wait for the Christmas posts!
