It’s finally here- July Forth week! It’s our favorite time to spend on Honeoye Lake! It’s the most eagerly awaited family and friends holiday of the Summer. Bring on the HEAT, BBQs and fireworks. I LOVE IT ALL!
Let’s Dive In
Each year we tackle improvement to our small lake house. Some big and some small, everything from structural improvements to projects like painting, plantings and holiday decorating. This Summer we added a much needed fire pit patio. Next on the list, updating our front porch to accommodate more overnight guests and create an inviting and comfortable spot to chill out, catch up and watch the waves.
Time For An Upgrade
The porch by far has the best views of the Lake. A few years ago I transformed a garage sale king size headboard into a daybed/bench but I’ve never invested in proper cushions and it showed. I cut corners and added a flimsy lounge chair cushion and called it a day. It barely made the wood surface comfortable to sit on let alone sleep! To see how I made this daybed click here.
Daybed Dreaming
I turned to my friends at Patio Lane for a stylish custom foam filled upholstered cushion! The build your cushion visualizer was so helpful and simple to navigate. Their site was so comprehensive and in a just ten minutes I designed our daybed the perfect cushion. I was able to decide how many cushions, welting, edges styles, cushion thickness and if even if I wanted ties. Not to mention hundreds of eye catching fabrics to choose from. Deciding on which fabric I liked best took the longest!
I had the best time with the girls and Bo creating this 1-minute video on how quick it was to turn this DIY headboard into the most coveted spot in the house.
Built To Last
The sun had faded the old cushion and pillows terriblely. I knew that I needed to invest in a custom cushion with a fabric the was impervious to spills and resistant to the sun’s harmful rays. I narrowed my search to outdoor fabrics and ultimately chose the Sunbrella Yacht Stripe Navy. Nothing quite said “down at the lake” like a classic navy blue and white duct stripe. When it arrived I couldn’t open it fast enough! For this fabric junkie it was like opening presents at Christmas time.
I piled on all the pillows in our patriotic red, white, and blue nautical fabrics, added a matching striped poof, brought in an accent table and a new macramé accent chair for extra conversation seating.
And in no time at all this spot immediately became the cottage’s coziest corner.
Gather with Family and friends…
.. or spend quiet alone time.
My dad will be the first guest to sleep on the daybed overnight tonight. There’s nothing better than the cool Lake breeze and hearing the waves hit the shore at night. No back aches with our new cushion, thanks to Patio Lane.
The daybed also serves as bench seating for when we have sunset dinners. We plug in the string lights, light the candles and enjoy the stunning upstate NY Finger Lakes sunsets. Come meet us down on the porch!
Time to celebrate!
No one likes to spend the holiday in the kitchen, Try this quick refreshing Summer salad by adding fresh mint, feta cheese and a balsamic vinegar reduction to watermelon stars.
Here’s hoping that you all have a wonderful Forth!
