1 Day Front Door Budget Makeover

It’s finally Spring and the leaves and flowers are showing color in Upstate NY. It’s the perfect time you give you home some fun fresh curb appeal. I couldn’t be any happier than to partner up with my colorful friends from Sherwin Williams to share a front door makeover. We transformed this front door with paint and supplies for under $50. In less than a four hours we took this boring tired front door from drab to fab. If you’re feeling like you need some color in your life,  grab your paint brushes, drop cloths and rollers and head on over to your local Sherwin Williams this week for some colorful eye candy.

Curb Appeal

Before: The door was such a dark green that looked black. You’d never notice that there was this amazing brass bird knocker. The lock had been changed and the white primer was showing. A tired faux brass mailbox needed some loving.

How To Prep a Front Door For Paint

I first cleaned the door, window, hardware and mailbox of any dirt. I then taped off the hardware and spray paint it along with the mailbox. A  large piece of cardboard is ideal for keeping the spray paint from getting on the trim.  I used a smaller brush to cut into the half moon window.

After two coats of the black I added a white tuxedo line detail for added interest.

Paint Colors that Pop

This center entrance colonial needed a bright pop of color. All the neighboring houses were cream, beige and brick. I chose Sherwin Williams Great Falls SW6495. Its the perfect turquoise blue that grabs your attention once you turn the corner!

I had trouble removing the door knocker so I loosened the screws just enough to get my brush under the back making sure I covered all the dark green.

The first coat covered great and I waited 20 minutes until applying the second coat.

Front Door Bling

The sun came out and I accessorized the front door! Cobalt blue pottery planters with boxwood orbs and flowers, lanterns, and decorative door matts give her even more of a welcoming vibe.

The transformation is literally “Night and Day” and took just a few hours. The homeowners were ecstatic and couldn’t believe how a quart of paint could change the look of their home.  If you’re in need of a curb appeal makeover swing into your neighborhood Sherwin Williams store this week for National Painting Week  (May 22nd thru May 30th) and don’t forget to share your transformations on social media using the hashtag #SWColorLove.

Amie, you did an amazing job!! I love the color, and that adorable tuxedo stripe on the mailbox! You’re so creative! Also loving those box woods with the flowers around! I’m going to try and tackle a big paint project this summer…repainting my modern picket style fence around the house. Wish me luck! I

Wonderful color – one of my faves!! It’s always fun to make a bold & colorful statement at the front door!

We are painting our “red room” red this week with SW paint – including the ceiling – for a high-gloss lacquered look to brighten our piano room / study & take it from drab to fab!! Currently it’s a muddy light moss green but soon that will be history!

We also plan to paint our foyer but haven’t decided on color yet – possibly a teal/turquoise ombré taken up the stairway. So many options!

Hi Amie ~ Great job on the door! I think you just gave me the push I needed to paint my front door! I recently had my house sided a nice dark gray and thought a turquoise blue door might just be what I need! Thanks for the inspiration! <3
